Meet Dr. Hovden

Daly City cosmetic dentist Dr. Ken Hovden is a 3rd generation San Franciscan and a 2nd generation dentist. Both his mother and father are dentists along with his sister who is a practicing orthodontist. Growing up in San Francisco Dr. Hovden attended St. Ignatius College Preparatory. Dr. Hovden graduated from Stanford University with honors and dual degrees, a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Social Science/Political Science. He attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry where he received the Gene Dixon Student Leadership Award, and was awarded membership in the two top scholastic honor societies. Dr. Ken Hovden then practiced dentistry with his father until his retirement .

Dr. Hovden always strives to be the best. He has been a faculty member at University of the Pacific School of Dentistry for over 21 years teaching in the endodontic department. He has served on the Executive Board of Directors of the school’s Alumni Association for over 12 years. A strong commitment to always be at the top, Dr. Hovden has trained with leading experts in the fields of cosmetic dentistry, full mouth rehabilitation, bite force control, TMJ therapy, implants and advanced endodontics. Dr. Hovden has authored articles for national dental publications. Dr. Hovden has been awarded Gold Medals by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry at their last two annual meetings for his outstanding cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Hovden is a faculty member of the Hornbrook Group. The Hornbrook Group teaches advanced cosmetic and restorative dentistry to dentists across the nation. Dr. Hovden has taught in San Francisco, Houston, New York, Las Vegas and Chicago. He has also founded Bay Area Aesthetic Masters, a study group, to help other local dentists enhance their skills.

Dr. Hovden is a member of multiple dental organizations. Each has a role in his development as a dentist. As a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association and San Mateo Dental Society Dr. Hovden joins other dentists in helping secure quality care for future generations. Dr. Hovden is one of a handful of general dentists who earned membership in the American Association of Endodontists, the rest are all specialists. As a member of the Academy of General Dentistry Dr. Hovden demonstrates his commitment to continuing education and his constant evolvement as a dentist. As a member of the American Equilibration Society he stays current with TMJ issues. And finally as a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry he has chosen to spend many hours perfecting the art of dentistry.

Dr. Hovden's wife and children bring balance to his life. He is an avid snow skier and equestrian, but his ultimate enjoyment is being a dad
